History

The Department of Information Technology formerly known as the Department of Information and Communication Science was established via the decision of the Senate at its 193rd special meeting held on 20th June, 2008. The Department was created in the new Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) comprising of two existing departments: Computer Science & Mass Communication and Two other new departments, Library and Information Science (LIS), and Telecommunication Science.

The aim of establishing the Department of Information Technology was to produce well-grounded graduates that could explicitly relate theory to practice, with essential transferable skills such as communication and team working, and who could develop innovative ICT solutions using scientific approaches and state-of-the arts tools

Since its Inception candidates are admitted into 100 Level through the Remedial programme and University Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and to 200 Level through Direct Entry and promotion from 100 level. The duration of the Programme for candidates who are admitted by UTME Model & Remedial is Four (4) years while the duration of the programme for those admitted by direct is Three (3) years.
